Army assures probe, calls incident unfortunate
BARAMULLA: The senior officers of Army on Friday said that a team will be constituted to probe the incident of alleged thrashing of three journalists by Army while covering the Jashn-e-Baramulla function here on Friday afternoon.
Three local journalists were allegedly thrashed by the Army while covering the Jashn-e-Baramulla function.
Army hosted Jashn-e-Baramulla in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, wherein, Bollywood actor Amisha Patel was the chief guest of the occasion.
The function as per the journalists was going well until the scribes asked to get a byte from Bollywood actress Amisha Patel in a professional manner. However, as per the journalists, the army officials allegedly started beating them up without any provocation.
As per the reports, three journalists were allegedly beaten, Suhail Khan, online editor Kashmir Despatch, Kashmir Crown reporter Ashiq Mir and a Mudasir, whose camera was also demaged in the melee.
“First, we were invited to cover the function at Jashn-e-Baramulla by the Army, however after we were covering the event and asked chief guest to cover the function professionally, we were not only beaten, but our equipment was damaged ”, said one of the journalists.
Soon after the incident, journalists boycotted and staged a protest against the Army for allegedly thrashing three journalists despite being asked to cover the function.
Meanwhile a senior army official in a statement assured that action will be take against soldier who had allegedly beaten three journalists during a Jashn-e-Baramulla.
He said this is unfortunate incident which should not have happened at first place. The officer assured protesting journalists that a team will be constituted to inquire about the incident .
