14 Gamblers Nabbed In Baramulla, Stake Money Seized
Srinagar, Jun 20 : Jammu and Kashmir Police Sunday said to have arrested at least fourteen gamblers and seizing from them a cash amount of forty-seven thousand rupees in two villages of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
In a statement issued to GNS, the Baramulla district police said that acting swiftly upon specific information regarding gambling in the jurisdiction of Police Station Baramulla, a police team led by Inspector Showkat Ahmad Shah, SHO PS Baramulla under the supervision of Syed Sajad Hussain, DySP Hqrs Baramulla raided the specified place of gambling at Chakloo, Baramulla and arrested seven gamblers.
The police identified the arrested persons as; Mohd Ramzan Dar of Sangri Colony Baramulla; Ayaan Ayoub Malla of Hanfia Colony Arampora Sopore; Dilshad Ahmad Sheikh of Sheikh Colony Noorbagh Baramulla; Javid Ahmad of Drangbal Baramulla; Rafeeq Ahmad Bhat of Fatehgarh Sheeri; Mubashir Mushtaq of Arampora Sopore and Ishfaq Ahmad Dar of Arampora Sopore.
It further said that stake money of rupees twenty-nine thousand and thirty rupees besides a deck of playing cards were also recovered from the accused.
A case FIR No. 148/2021, U/S 13 Gambling Act registered at Police Station Baramulla and investigation taken up, the statement reads.
In a similar recovery, Police Station Pattan, as per the statement, upon receipt of specific information, constituted a team led by Inspector Nisar Ahmad, SHO PS Pattan and Inspector Sarjan Ahmad, IC PP Mirgund under the supervision of Zaffar Mehdi, DySP (SDPO Pattan) raided the place of gambling at Baliharan Mirgund, Baramulla, leading to the arrest of seven gamblers.
The accused arrested persons have been identified as Hanief Ahmad Bhat, Mohd Younus Bhat, Farooq Ahmad Lone, Mayoom Ahmad Malik, Mohd Shafi Malik, Tariq Ahmad Lone Lone all residents of Singhpora Pattan and Tawseef Ahmad Sheikh, resident of KP Seri Singhpora Pattan.
Stake money amounting to rupees 18090 and a deck of playing cards were also recovered from them, the statement reads.
A Case FIR No. 178/2021, U/S 13 Gambling Act registered at Police Station Pattan and investigation taken up in this regard, the statement reads.
Community members are requested to extend cooperation to the Police and come forward with such information so that such social crimes are effectively curbed, the statement concludes. (GNS)
