Kulgam Loses Road Connectivity with Shopian As Bailey Bridge Collapses on NH44 at Chowalgam, Qazigund

AEE R&B Assures Re-Installation within 10 Days

Kulgam July 2: On Friday earlý morning, people were shocked to see that the bridge on NH44 at Chowalgam, Qazigund in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district had collapsed due to which the people of Kulgam district lost road connectivity with Shopian district.

Locals told CNS that collapsing of bridge on the national highway is itself proof that substandard material was used during its construction.

When CNS contacted AEE R&B Kulgam Parvaz Ahmad, he said,” last we had declare it unsafe for heavy vehicles”

On being asked why unsafe bridge exists on National Highway, he claimed that it is a bailey bridge on temporary basis.

” it is our top priority to re-install it but it will take at least 10 days” and he added that there is no place for diversion as houses are around it.

The residents of Kulgam have demanded re-installation on priority basis as it shortens distance between Kulgam by Shopian by at least 30 kilometres and now a person will have to travel additional 30 kilometres to reach Shopian. (CNS)
