SSP Anantnag calls out fake news of Hindi news channel, netizens demand FIR
A senior police officer on Thursday evening called out a TV channel for running fake news about the house of deceased sarpanch having been vandalised in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, while social media users demanded him to file an FIR against the channel.
SSP Anantnag Sandeep Choudhary posted on Twitter the screenshot of Republic TV’s Hindi Channel for running a fake news.
“Stop spreading fake news @republic his house is safe,” Choudhary posted on Twitter with screenshot attached of the news scroll.
The news channel has run a scroll: ‘J&K, Anantnag mei Ajay pandita ke ghar par todphod in Hindi. (Ajay Pandita’s house has been vandalised in Anantnag).
The SSP posted pics of the house in tact of the Pandita’s.
Ajay Pandita, a sarpanch of Lukbawan in Anantnag, was killed two weeks ago by unidentified gunmen in Lukbawan village.
As soon as the police officer called out the news channel for running a fake news, netizens asked him to file FIR against the news channel.
According to news agency Kashmir DotDot Com (KDC) senior journalist Niyaz Elahi wrote: “Let us assume for a moment, this news would have been run by any local reporter…And we all know about the repercussions.”
Nishant Panth, another user wrote: “Can you then file a suo moto FIR against #PagalArnab for running a fake news that too with no shred of evidence with an intent to flare up sentiments?? If police can’t touch him due to his connections & he continues to peddle fake news what weight does this tweet of yours carry??”
“Just not on Twitter, dear Sandeep @Sandeep_IPS_JKP – please register a case of creating mischief against this reprehensible @republic. You have the evidence,” wrote S Kumar, another user on twitter.(KDC)
