Peoples Alliance For Gupkar Declaratio (PAGD) an amalgam of several regional and a few National political parties have become relevant at a time when the voices of genuine anger have been gaged by the government. The leaders who are now acting as cheerleaders to hunt for the ills being meted to the natives of J&K by the BJP led NDA government at the centre to exploit the situation in their favor. Although, Kashmiries are feeling disrobed after the abrogation of the Article370 & 35 A, but at the same time have lost their sense of thinking as none among the leaders in PAGD has any resemblance to a savior. The people now are behaving as helpless mute spectators, as there is strong feeling that the strong pillars of this amalgam seems to be unholy, as, while in power they have acted more ruthlessly than others. The people didn’t forget the role of National Conference, the PDP or the Congress, as the process of disrobing Kashmir had started immediately after the death of Nehru and was carried forward by National Conference followed in the same spirit by PDP. A S Dulat the ex RAW Chief in a candid statement after the abrogation of Article 370 & 35 A, criticized the BJP government & said that most of the conditions of accession had already been taken off, and the autonomy now was for a namesake only. It’s the leadership of NC and PDP in past who, for remaining in power diluted the important conditions of Autonomy or accession.
The BJP government led by Narinder Modi has dropped the curtain only for electoral gains at the National level, otherwise the most important leaders in PAGD were enough to complete the process of dismantling the special status attached to Jammu & Kashmir by virtue of the treaty of accession between Maharaja Hari Singh & the Government of India, through which as is known to all, that India would be having control on defense, currency and foreign affairs. But, the BJP’s virtual triumph, besides consolidating their vote bank in India also changed the complete narrative of the Kashmir issue. Today, the popular voice from this only political combination is demanding the restoration of Article 370 and statehood, in other words, it is the call for pre-1989 position. This means Kashmiries lost the life of about one lac souls devastated several neighborhoods, entire economy the faith and the trust too.
The other side of the political canvas in Kashmir, the separatist leadership viz. APHC, JKLF and other outfits, who have been on receiving end of the government’s vigorous anti-secessionist forces for the last two years, who in view of the unabated pressure from the government, preferred to skip the issue under the garb of liberation from Indian occupation. However, the people in Kashmir are wise enough to understand that the in-capability of that leadership too is responsible for this undesirable situation.
Now, accepting/tolerating the PAGD is being treated as the need of the hour and there is no other alternative even to pursue the changed narrative from azadi to autonomy. This changed narrative is what the Indian agencies would have hoped for. People now wish that the leadership which has emerged in the shape of PAGD should succeed in getting back the pre-1989 status or the diluted form of autonomy without any further bloodshed. The leaders of PAGD too seem to have realized the futility of their power centered political wilderness, so, the intelligentsia in Kashmir now expects the amalgam to be at-least honest to this maimed cause.
