Citizens continue to suffer as Consumer Courts continue remain closed
Justice delayed, Justice denied: Thousands of cases at halt due to closure of Consumer Courts
Thousands of consumers & lawyers in J&k are suffering due to the closure of consumer Courts in Jammu and Kashmir, after abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.
The consumers say that the justice delayed to them tantamount to Justice denied to them.
Sources told CNS that presently there are thousands of cases pending in different Consumer Courts in Srinagar & Jammu since the abrogation of Article 370 all the consumer courts have been closed, the staff and Presiding officers have been also shifted to other courts by law department.
Since last ten months neither the government has reopened these courts nor have been the cases shifted to some other courts for their disposal.
Unfortunately these all files are locked inside room due to which the justice has been denied to consumers, said a lawyer working in the consumer.
Saleem yousuf ,Advocate J&K High Court Srinagar told CNS that these courts are already over burdened, due to long pending cases.,
“It will be in the interest of general public & justice, if the govt will reopen these courts as soon as possible,” adding that the cases pending before consumer courts pertain to different disputes, arising over a range of issues such as insurance matters, housing deals, banking matters, finance deals, functioning and purchase of automobiles, purchase and functioning of electrical and electronic goods, electricity cases, medical negligence cases etc.
Saleem further said that consumers are requesting Government to reopen these courts for the disposal of cases, pending in a large number since long in these courts.
Meanwhile Achal Sethi secretary to government law department J&K while talking to CNS said that Central Government has to frame rules, and then only can we operate these courts in J&K again
