Eid-ul-Fitr to be celebrated on May 24 in Pakistan: Pak Technology Minister

Pakistan Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry on Thursday claimed that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on May 24 (Sunday) in many countries including Pakistan.

Speaking in a TV programme, Fawad said according to the calendar prepared by the science ministry, this year Eid will be celebrated across the country on May 24.

The minister said the interesting thing is that the festival will be celebrated on the same day in almost all parts of the world along with Pakistan, including Indonesia, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia.

A meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has been convened on Saturday, May 23 for Shawwal moon sighting in Karachi.

This isn’t the first time Chaudhry has locked horns with Pakistan’s moon-sighting committee. Last year, he announced that his ministry would make an Islamic calendar with Eid, Ramazan and Muharram dates pre-decided before the official announcement. In response, Mufti Muneebur Rehman, the head of the Committee, told Chaudhry to mind his own business.

It’s very important to mention that people in Kashmir look forward to Pakistan for celebrating major Islamic events including Eid-ul-fitr.
