NC committed to preserving J&K’s secular ethos: Dr Mustafa, Gupta
Jammu,20-Dec;National Conference Additional General Secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal today expressed concern over machinations of polarizing elements in dividing the society on regional and religious lines, saying sowing seeds of mistrust and hate is against the secular ethos of Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking at a day-long convention of the party in Suchetgarh Constituency, Dr Kamaal said the forward looking people of Jammu and Kashmir will foil all these malicious tactics by maintaining their secular credentials at all costs.
Dr Mustafa exhorted the people in general and National Conference cadre in particular to shoulder their responsibilities of preserving the rich multi cultural, multi regional, and multi ethnic ethos, saying idea of Jammu and Kashmir cannot be bartered.
Addressing the conversation, Provincial President Mr Rattan Lal Gupta stressed the crucial need of preserving the pluralistic ethos of J&K, saying unity in diversity is real strength of this part of the country.
“Any attempt of vitiating the composite pluralistic character of J&K will not only defeat the idea of Jammu and Kashmir but foil the idea of India as well”, Mr Gupta said and hailed the spirit of the people in maintaining brotherhood.
Referring to the issues raised by the leaders, Mr Gupta demanded compensation to farmers whose standing crops were damaged due to hailstorm. He also sought special employment and economic package for the border areas, who have all along been at the receiving end.
Mr Gupta lauded the resilience of the farmers and hailed their unity in getting the three farm laws revoked.
District President Jammu Rural “B” Mr Naresh Bittu addressed the convention and highlighted the problems faced to the people.
Earlier, Mr Rattan Lal Gupta was given rousing reception on his maiden visit to the area after being elected as the Provincial President.
