NIT Srinagar holds its 6th Convocation Day for 2019-2020

National Institute of Technology Srinagar held its 6th Convocation here at Srinagar today. Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal “Nishank”, Hon’ble Minister of Education, Government of India, graced the occasion as Chief Guest by Video Link and delivered the Convocation Day address. Sh. Manoj Sinha, Hon’ble Lt. Governor Jammu & Kashmir also attended the event online as the guest of Honour. The event was presided over by Prof. Rakesh Sehgal, National Institute of Technology Srinagar.
Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Rakesh Sehgal, welcomed the Chief Guest & Guest of Honour on the auspicious occasion along with the Hon’ble Vice Chancellors of various State and Central Universities of Kashmir in addition to the teaching fraternity & students including those who joined the event online.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal “Nishank”, Hon’ble Minister of Education expressed his pleasure on presiding over the Convocation event of the Institute; he also congratulated NIT Srinagar on publishing more than 900 Research Papers during the period. Dr. Pokhriyal pointed out that, the Government of India is committed to the cause of education and since 2018 has established 50 New Degree colleges in the Union Territory along with sanctioning 572 additional Teaching & Non-Teaching posts in the UT. Dr. Pokhriyal, in his address, termed the National Education Policy 2020 as an inclusive ground breaking reform in the sector of education which is now being replicated across the world.
Sh. Manoj Sinha, Hon’ble Lt. Governor Jammu & Kashmir congratulated the students on the occasion. Hon’ble Lt. Governor highlighted the role of teachers in preparing the students to meet the ever changing nature of jobs. Mr. Sinha, is his address, expressed his hope that the students graduating with degrees will participate in all aspects of nation building.
In total, 1145 students received their academic degrees at the convocation, amongst them 17 B.Tech toppers were awarded Gold Medals in each branch, 22 Gold Medals were awarded to the toppers of each programme of M.Tech. & M.Sc. for both 2019 and 2020 pass out batches.
Prof. Rakesh Sehgal informed the attendees that; 48 Ph.D Scholars, 213 M.Tech, 8 M.Sc, and 876 B.Tech. graduates will be awarded a degree in virtual mode. Prof. Sehgal added that Four New PG programmes namely, M. Tech. (Electrical Power & Energy Systems), M.Sc. (Chemistry), M.Sc. (TIED) and a MBA program have been started at the Institute from this session.
Registrar, NIT Srinagar, Dr. Kaiser Bukhari thanked Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal “Nishank”, for gracing the occasion with his presence. Dr. Bukhari called the Education Minster’s convocation address as insightful and inspiring. Dr. Bukhari also thanked guest of Honour, Lt. Governor Jammu & Kashmir, Sh. Manoj Sinha’s acceptance of the invitation and adding charm to the occasion by his thoughtful address.
Dr. Kaiser Bukhari, also took the opportunity to thank Prof. Najeeb, Dean Academic Affairs, for his efforts in making the Convocation Event a success.
