Residents up in arms against SMC over chicken farm

Srinagar, Feb 28: Residents of Tengpora Bypass have expressed resentment over the re-opening of a chicken farm in their area.

According to reports, two brothers Farooq Ahmed Sheikh and Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh both sons of Wali Mohammed Sheikh R/o Tengpora Bypass had started a chicken farm in their house which is a residential area.

Following complaints, Srinagar Municipal Corporation issued an order to seal the property for violating the rules and regulations of pollution control board and using a residential house for commercial purposes.

However, after some time the SMC issued another order for de-sealing the house under the conditions that it would not be used for commercial purposes especially for running a chicken farm which could pose a threat to the human lives especially when bird flu cases have increased in Kashmir valley.

Residents have now alleged that the two brothers have again started the chicken farming resulting in foul smell with the threat of bird flu infections looming large.

Residents have appealed to the SMC authorities to take look into the matter and threatened to agitate if it failed to take action.

They have also warned of taking the matter to the court.
